crosswire
Perpendicular filament junction
Crosswire refers to one of two fine wires or threads intersecting at right angles in the focal plane of an optical instrument like a telescope, surveying transit, or rifle scope.
The intersection marks the precise center of the field of view, used for aiming or measurement: Align the crosswires with the target.
Also called crosshairs.
To crosswire can mean to connect wires incorrectly, or figuratively, to miscommunicate or confuse signals: We got crosswired about the meeting time.
