open sight
Simple gun sights
Open sight refers to a basic aiming device on firearms consisting of a rear notch and front post that the shooter aligns visually with the target.
Unlike telescopic or electronic sights, open sights have no lenses or magnification—just metal components the eye looks across: The rifle came with open sights, no scope.
Also called iron sights.
