coypu

South American beaver-like

A coypu is a large semiaquatic rodent native to South America, resembling a beaver but with a round tail.

Valued for its fur, called nutria, the coypu has been introduced to other continents where it often becomes an invasive pest, damaging wetlands and crops.

Coypus have overrun the Louisiana marshes.
