counterbore
Hole-widening drill operation
A counterbore is a cylindrical flat-bottomed enlargement of a hole, allowing a bolt head or fastener to sit flush with or below the surface.
The term also refers to the cutting tool that creates such a recess.
To counterbore is to cut this enlargement: Counterbore the holes so the screw heads don't protrude.
