diamondback rattlesnake

Patterned desert serpent

A diamondback rattlesnake is a large venomous snake native to North America, named for the diamond-shaped pattern along its back.

Two species exist: the eastern diamondback, the largest rattlesnake, and the western diamondback, known for its aggressive disposition.

Like all rattlesnakes, it has a segmented rattle at the tail tip that buzzes as a warning when threatened.
