Brain's outer regions
Cortexes is the plural of cortex, an outer layer of tissue, especially the cerebral cortex—the folded gray matter covering the brain.
Other organs have cortexes too: the renal cortex is the kidney's outer region.
The Latin plural cortices appears in scientific writing, but cortexes dominates in general usage: The cortexes of the two hemispheres communicate through the corpus callosum.
