corn poppy

Red field bloom

A corn poppy is a wild poppy with bright red petals and a black center, native to Europe and common in grain fields and disturbed soil.

Also called the Flanders poppy, it became a symbol of remembrance for soldiers killed in World War I after flourishing on the battlefields of Belgium and France: She wore a corn poppy on her lapel for Remembrance Day.
