lest we forget

Remembrance Day phrase

Lest we forget is a solemn phrase urging remembrance, especially of soldiers who died in war.

It comes from Kipling's poem "Recessional" and appears on war memorials and in Remembrance Day ceremonies: Lest we forget, they gave their lives for our freedom.

The phrase warns against complacency or ingratitude toward sacrifice.
