punch in
Begin work officially
To punch in is to record your arrival at work, originally by inserting a timecard into a clock that stamps the time: I punched in at 8:55.
The phrase extends to any system for logging work hours, including digital ones.
Punch in also means to enter data by pressing keys or buttons: Punch in your PIN.
The opposite is punch out.
