commies

Informal term, Marxists

Commies is informal, often disparaging slang for communists.

The term peaked during Cold War anticommunism, when commies served as shorthand for Soviet sympathizers or anyone suspected of leftist politics.

Today it appears mostly in casual speech or with ironic distance: My grandfather still thinks the commies are coming for his guns.
