Pinko is a dismissive term for someone with left-wing or socialist sympathies, suggesting they're not quite a full communist ("red") but lean that direction.
The word emerged during Cold War anti-communist fervor and remains mildly derogatory: Her father called anyone who supported unions a pinko.
