wingnuts
Crazies on fringes
Wingnuts are nuts with two flat projections for gripping, allowing hand-tightening without tools.
Figuratively, a wingnut is a person with extreme political views, especially on the right: The comment section filled with wingnuts ranting about the deep state.
The political sense suggests someone whose thinking has gone off-kilter.
Singular: wingnut.
