commie

Cold War epithet

Commie is informal and usually disparaging slang for a communist—someone who supports communist political ideology or belongs to a communist party.

The term peaked during Cold War anti-communist sentiment in the United States, when commie carried strong negative connotations of disloyalty or subversion.

Today it's often used loosely or humorously to label anyone perceived as far-left or anti-capitalist: My uncle calls anyone who supports universal healthcare a commie.
