colourizing
Painting monochrome footage
Colourizing is the process of adding colour to black-and-white images, particularly film footage.
The practice became controversial in the 1980s when studios began releasing colourized versions of classic movies: Turner's colourizing of Casablanca sparked outrage among film purists.
Also spelled colorizing.
