colour bar

Discrimination by skin

A colour bar is a form of racial segregation that excludes people from places, services, or opportunities based on skin colour.

The term is primarily British: The colour bar in South African hotels prevented Black guests from staying.

In television and video, colour bars are the striped test pattern used to calibrate monitors and check signal quality.
