co-rulers

Shared throne holders

Co-rulers are two or more people who share authority over a kingdom, empire, or other domain.

The arrangement appears throughout history—Roman emperors sometimes ruled jointly, and monarchies have seen co-regents govern together: The husband and wife served as co-rulers of the realm.

The term applies to any shared leadership where power is formally divided rather than delegated.
