co-ops
Jointly owned enterprises
Co-ops are cooperative organizations owned and operated by their members for mutual benefit.
A housing co-op is a building where residents own shares rather than individual units.
A food co-op is a grocery store owned by its shoppers.
In education, a co-op program alternates classroom study with work experience: She's doing a co-op at an engineering firm this semester.
The term also refers to cooperative preschools run by participating parents.
