command economies

Government controls everything

Command economies are economic systems in which a central authority—typically the government—makes major decisions about production, distribution, and pricing rather than letting markets determine them.

The Soviet Union operated a command economy, as does North Korea today.

The term often appears in contrast to market economies or mixed economies: Command economies struggle with innovation because there's no profit motive.
