corporate raiders
Takeover-minded investors
Corporate raiders are investors or firms that acquire large stakes in companies, often to force changes that increase short-term stock value—selling off assets, restructuring, or pushing for a buyout at a premium.
The term emerged in the 1980s takeover boom and carries a predatory connotation: raiders profit while workers lose jobs and companies get dismembered.
