subletting

Renting your rental

Subletting is renting out property you yourself are renting, typically with the landlord's permission.

A tenant who can't break their lease might sublet to someone else for the remaining months: She's subletting her apartment while she's abroad.

The person who moves in is a subletter or subtenant.

Also called subleasing.
