Aromatic dried bud

Clove has two unrelated meanings.

The spice clove is the dried flower bud of a tropical tree, pungent and aromatic, used in cooking and baking: ham studded with cloves, a pinch of ground clove.

Separately, a clove of garlic is one of the segments that make up a garlic bulb: Mince three cloves of garlic.
