chyrons
Broadcast text overlays
Chyrons are the text graphics that appear on television screens, typically at the bottom, identifying speakers, locations, or providing news headlines and other information.
The term comes from Chyron Corporation, whose equipment became industry standard for generating such on-screen text.
Though technically a trademark, chyron has become the generic term among broadcast professionals and media critics.
The chyron misidentified the senator's party affiliation.
Breaking news chyrons scroll across cable news channels constantly.
