hearing impaired
Lacking full audition
Hearing impaired describes someone with reduced or absent hearing ability.
The term emerged as a neutral alternative to *deaf* but has fallen out of favor in many deaf communities, where *deaf* or *hard of hearing* are preferred.
It remains common in institutional contexts: hearing-impaired students, services for the hearing impaired.
