chest tube
Lung drainage catheter
A chest tube is a flexible plastic tube inserted through the chest wall into the pleural space—the area between the lungs and the ribcage.
It drains air, blood, or fluid that has accumulated there, allowing a collapsed lung to re-expand or preventing dangerous pressure buildup.
They placed a chest tube after the stabbing punctured his lung.
