MASH unit
Army medical station
A MASH unit is a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital—a military medical facility designed to be set up close to combat zones for emergency treatment.
The term became widely known through the television series *M*A*S*H*, set during the Korean War.
MASH units provided rapid surgical care before patients were evacuated to permanent hospitals farther from the front lines.
