urinary catheter
Internal drainage tube
A urinary catheter is a flexible tube inserted through the urethra into the bladder to drain urine.
Catheters are used when patients cannot urinate normally—during surgery, after certain procedures, or for those with incontinence or urinary retention.
The nurse inserted a urinary catheter before the operation.
Indwelling catheters remain in place; intermittent ones are removed after each use.
