channel marker

Waterway guidance sign

A channel marker is a buoy, post, or sign placed in a waterway to guide boats through safe passage.

Red and green markers indicate the edges of navigable channels; other colors and shapes warn of hazards or restrictions.

Follow the channel markers to avoid running aground.
