cerium
Rare earth metal
Cerium is a soft, silvery metallic element, the most abundant of the rare earth metals.
It oxidizes readily in air and ignites when scratched.
Cerium compounds appear in catalytic converters, self-cleaning ovens, and glass polishing.
The element's ability to produce sparks when struck makes it useful in lighter flints.
