tracer rounds
Glowing bullet trails
Tracer rounds are ammunition designed to emit a visible trail of light or smoke during flight, allowing shooters to track the bullet's path and adjust their aim.
They contain a pyrotechnic compound in the base that ignites when fired: Every fifth round in the belt was a tracer.
Used primarily in military applications for targeting and signaling, though the glow works both ways—tracers reveal the shooter's position as clearly as the target's.
