terbium

Rare earth metal

Terbium is a silvery-white metallic element, one of the rare earth metals in the lanthanide series of the periodic table.

It has the atomic number 65 and the symbol Tb.

Terbium compounds are used in various applications including green phosphors for color television tubes and fluorescent lamps, as well as in solid-state devices and fuel cells.

The element is named after Ytterby, a village in Sweden where several rare earth minerals were first discovered.
