lodgepole
Conifer for shelters
Lodgepole is short for lodgepole pine, a tall, straight conifer native to western North America.
The name comes from its use by Native Americans for building lodges and tepees—the trunks grow slender and uniform, ideal for structural poles.
Dense lodgepole forests covered the mountainside.
