guy rope

Canvas steadying line

A guy rope is a tensioned cord or cable used to stabilize a structure—typically a tent, mast, or pole—by anchoring it to the ground at an angle.

The ropes distribute stress and prevent the structure from swaying or collapsing: Make sure the guy ropes are taut before the storm hits.

Also called a guy wire or simply a guy.
