cavity wall
Gap-separated brick layers
A cavity wall is a wall built in two parallel layers with an air gap between them.
The gap provides insulation against heat, cold, and moisture.
Most modern houses have cavity walls, which can be filled with insulating material to improve energy efficiency: The contractor recommended filling the cavity wall with foam insulation.
