carpenter's square

Framing angle tool

A carpenter's square is an L-shaped tool used to mark and verify right angles in woodworking and construction.

The two arms meet at exactly 90 degrees, allowing carpenters to check corners, lay out cuts, and ensure pieces are square.

Also called a framing square when the arms are long, or a try square when smaller.
