phantom power
Microphone DC supply
Phantom power is a method of transmitting electrical power through audio cables to devices that need it, particularly condenser microphones.
The power travels along the same wires as the audio signal without interfering with it—hence "phantom," since it's invisible to the signal path.
Most professional audio interfaces and mixing boards provide phantom power, typically 48 volts: Make sure phantom power is on before recording with that mic.
