camera obscura
Pinhole image chamber
A camera obscura is a darkened chamber or box with a small hole through which light projects an inverted image of the outside scene onto an interior surface.
The device demonstrates basic optical principles and was used by artists to trace accurate perspective drawings.
It is the conceptual ancestor of the photographic camera—both names derive from the Latin for "dark room."
