dark room

Film developing space

A dark room is simply a room that is dark—one with little or no light.

The term also refers specifically to a darkroom (often written as one word), a space kept dark for developing photographic film and prints, where light would ruin the light-sensitive materials.

In some contexts, dark room describes spaces in clubs or bathhouses where anonymous sexual encounters occur.
