caimans

South American reptiles

Caimans are reptiles closely related to alligators, native to Central and South America.

They inhabit freshwater environments—rivers, lakes, marshes—and range from the small dwarf caiman to the large black caiman, which can exceed four meters.

Like their crocodilian relatives, caimans are ambush predators with armored skin and powerful jaws.
