washday
Clothes-cleaning occasion
Washday is the day of the week regularly set aside for doing laundry.
The term dates from an era when washing clothes was labor-intensive enough to occupy an entire day—traditionally Monday in many households.
Though modern conveniences have made the concept less fixed, the word persists: Monday was always washday at my grandmother's house.
