bluestem

Tall forage grass

Bluestem is a tall North American prairie grass, named for the bluish-green color of its stems.

Big bluestem and little bluestem are the most common varieties, once dominant across the Great Plains before widespread cultivation.

The grass turns bronze or copper in autumn: The bluestem waved in the October wind.
