Johnny Reb
Southern Civil War soldier
Johnny Reb is an informal personification of the Confederate soldier during the American Civil War, parallel to Billy Yank for Union troops.
The term appears in historical writing and period-style references: Johnny Reb fought bravely at Gettysburg.
It can also refer collectively to Confederate forces or, more loosely, to Southern identity rooted in Civil War nostalgia.
