bicarbonate of soda
Kitchen leavening agent
Bicarbonate of soda is sodium bicarbonate, a white crystalline compound used as a leavening agent in baking and as an antacid.
When combined with acid, it produces carbon dioxide gas, causing dough to rise.
Also called baking soda.
