balsawood

Lightweight craft wood

Balsawood is the lightweight timber of the balsa tree, native to Central and South America.

Despite being classified as a hardwood, it's among the softest and least dense commercial woods, making it ideal for model airplanes, rafts, and craft projects: The kids built a balsawood bridge for the science fair.

Also spelled as two words: balsa wood.
