arctic front

Cold air mass

An arctic front is a weather boundary where extremely cold arctic air meets warmer air masses.

Unlike typical cold fronts, arctic fronts bring dramatic temperature drops and can push far south during winter, causing dangerous wind chills and flash-freezing conditions: An arctic front swept through the Midwest, plunging temperatures forty degrees overnight.
