snow squall
Sudden white burst
A snow squall is a brief, intense burst of snowfall accompanied by strong winds, often reducing visibility dramatically.
Unlike sustained snowstorms, squalls arrive suddenly, dump snow heavily for minutes to an hour, then move on: The snow squall hit during rush hour and caused a dozen pileups.
They're particularly hazardous for driving because whiteout conditions develop without warning.
