air mass
Weather front component
A large body of air with relatively uniform temperature and humidity throughout, formed when air remains over a region long enough to take on that area's characteristics.
Meteorologists classify air masses by their source regions—polar or tropical, continental or maritime—and track their movements to forecast weather: A cold air mass is moving down from Canada.
