apatosaur

Long-necked dinosaur

An apatosaur is a massive plant-eating dinosaur of the late Jurassic period, with a long neck, long tail, and small head.

The name means "deceptive lizard"—early specimens were confused with other dinosaurs.

Once called brontosaurus, apatosaurus is now the accepted scientific name, though both terms persist in popular use.
