saurischian
Lizard-pelvis dinosaur group
Saurischian describes one of the two major groups of dinosaurs, distinguished by a lizard-like hip structure where the pubic bone points forward.
The saurischians include both the giant long-necked sauropods and the theropods—the lineage that gave rise to modern birds.
As a noun, a saurischian is any dinosaur belonging to this group: T. rex was a saurischian, not an ornithischian.
