antipodes
Earth's facing extremes
The antipodes are points on opposite sides of the Earth from each other—if you drilled straight through the planet's center, you'd emerge at your antipodal point.
The term often refers specifically to Australia and New Zealand as seen from Britain: Our cousins emigrated to the antipodes.
Figuratively, antipodes describes any two things diametrically opposed: Their political views are antipodes.
