Lemuria
Lost Indian Ocean
Lemuria is a hypothetical lost continent proposed by nineteenth-century scientists to explain the distribution of lemur fossils across Madagascar, India, and Africa—before plate tectonics offered a better explanation.
The idea was later adopted by occultists and mystics who imagined Lemuria as an ancient civilization, a spiritual homeland predating Atlantis.
Today it survives mainly in New Age and esoteric writings: She believed her soul originated in Lemuria.
